This policy brief reviews examples of private health insurance that provide coverage for HIV treatment and prevention in several sub-Saharan African countries. It identifies factors that facilitate or hinder efforts to expand private insurance coverage of HIV treatment, and presents recommendations for policymakers and insurance companies.
