IUDs: An Informed, Rational Choice for Women in Paraguay

This poster discusses findings from a process evaluation of a SHOPS program in Paraguay that designed demand generation and communications strategies for the Instituto de Prevision Social's (IPS) family planning program. SHOPS also provided technical assistance to IPS in the form of training in intrauterine device (IUD) insertion. The process evaluation reviewed beneficiaries' experiences with IUD insertions at IPS following SHOPS technical assistance and found that the majority had received information on IUDs from providers at IPS (rather than a friend or family member or book). It also found that many IUD users were not first time users of hormonal contraception and many wanted to transition from wanting to space pregnancies to wanting to limit.

The poster was presented by Caroline Quijada during a poster session at the International Conference on Family Planning in November 2013.
