Reducing the Cost of Private Sector Antiretrovirals in Namibia

This presentation discusses a SHOPS study in Namibia that collected and analyzed data regarding the characteristics of the market for antiretroviral (ARV) treatments in Namibia. The study found that medicines in the private sector are more expensive, and the public sector tends to prescribe cheaper, generic drugs. The authors believe that if the private health sector could provide its patients with the low-cost, generic drugs as in the public sector, it would greatly increase Namibian's access to ARVs.
