This report reviews the primary recommendations that came out of an integrated health systems and private sector assessment conducted in Saint Lucia in 2011 through a joint effort of the Health Systems 20/20 and SHOPS projects. While the broader health system was the focus of the assessment, attention was paid to the HIV response in particular. The assessment found that the Ministry of Health is in urgent need of detailed cost data to make informed funding decisions regarding the New National Hospital which was scheduled to open in early 2012. The public sector in Saint Lucia could also consider engaging the private sector to fill gaps in human resources, equipment, and financing; however, the current relationship between the public and private sectors is tense. Other recommendations that came out of the assessment related to governance, financing, health information systems, and pharmaceutical management.
