To address high rates of maternal mortality, the SHOPS project implemented a maternal health voucher program in four Western Region districts of Uganda from 2012 to 2014. As part of the Saving Mothers, Giving Life initiative, SHOPS partner Marie Stopes International, through its local affiliate, served as the voucher management agency. During the program, over 36,000 women gained access to skilled care, women who otherwise may not have been able to afford these services. This fact sheet presents results and implications from the voucher program.
