Digital financial services in the MENA region

More than half the population living in the Middle East and North Africa region have no secure means of saving or borrowing money, or making payments. Digital financial services can expand access to health information, products, and services, and make progress toward universal health coverage. Under the guidance of the USAID Bureau for the Middle East, SHOPS Plus conducted a landscape analysis of the trends, enablers of, and barriers to using digital financial services in 11 countries: Algeria, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Syria, Tunisia, West Bank and Gaza, and Yemen. This report provides a regional and country-specific overview of the regulatory environment, availability, and applications of digital financial services. It provides recommendations for advancing these services through engagement with the private sector, governments, and donors.
