Increasing Access to Save Lives: Private HIV Network in Côte d’Ivoire

The SHOPS program in Côte d’Ivoire worked with private clinics, government officials and the Association of Private Clinics of Côte d’Ivoire (ACPCI) to expand the provision of HIV and AIDS services into the private sector. SHOPS supported the establishment of a network of private clinics by assisting ACPCI with training and accrediting network clinics in accordance with Ministry of Health reporting and service delivery standards. SHOPS also assisted with obtaining the necessary government approvals for private sector use of antiretroviral therapy, and set up a technical committee of public and private sector officials to insure the process runs smoothly. As a result, free HIV testing and treatment is available in the private sector for the first time through the network. This short video highlights early accomplishments of the program.
