The National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) has developed programs to evaluate and recognize individual physicians and physician groups that follow evidence-based standards of care. NCQA currently has three recognition programs in operation: Diabetes Recognition Program, Heart/Stroke Recognition Program, and Physician Practice Connections. NCQA works with partners and stakeholders to launch the intervention. These physician evaluation results are used to reward performance (pay-for-performance), provide information to consumers/patients for choice, and stimulate overall quality improvement in ambulatory care.
