This presentation describes how the Government of Malawi has used service level agreements with the Christian Health Association of Malawi (CHAM) to expand health services in the country. Specifically it discusses the process by which the service level agreements were implemented, some important lessons learned from the partnership which began in 2002, and policy issues related to contracting to consider going forward. It was presented in July 2013 at the Healthcare Financing Summit in Lilongwe by Dr. Mathias Joshua, chair of the public-private partnerships technical working group in Malawi.
