"Promise and Progress: Market-based Solutions to Poverty in Africa" caps a 16-month study in sub-Saharan Africa. This investigation is particularly important because the poverty challenge is enormous. Despite the obstacles, market-based solutions are proliferating in Africa. The Monitor team identified 439 initiatives in nine sub-Saharan countries, active in 14 sectors and aiming at the $2-a-day market segment. Most of these initiatives were struggling, but a significant number were making a difference in the campaign against poverty.
