Technology Recommendations MAMA Bangladesh

In July 2012, Mobile Alliance for Maternal Action (MAMA) Bangladesh launched Aponjon, a national scale mobile health information service to achieve sustained improvements in maternal and child health knowledge, behaviors, and outcomes. The Aponjon service provides both audio and text health messages to pregnant women, new mothers, and their families. The message content is tied to a woman’s due date or date of baby’s birth. A pilot of the service was conducted with 2000 women in 13 locations from October 2011 to July 2012.

The SHOPS project provided technical assistance to MAMA Bangladesh from July 1, 2011 through June 30, 2012 through field support from USAID Bangladesh Mission. During this period, SHOPS worked closely with MAMA Bangladesh secretariat Dnet to assess the best technology options to support Aponjon. This report summarizes the key activities, findings, lessons learned, and recommendations from that effort.
